Who we are
Talk Louder is a voice tutor app for English speakers learning Castilian Spanish. It is run by Youssef El Beqqal, an individual developer [ADDRESS and COUNTRY].
This policy explains what we collect when you use the app and this website, why, who helps us run it, and the choices you have. Questions: support@talklouder.app.
What we collect
We keep this to what the app needs to work.
- Account: when you open the app we create an anonymous account for you. If you sign up, we also keep your email address and your first name (email sign-up), or the details Apple or Google share with us when you sign in with them. Passwords are stored by our sign-in provider, never in readable form.
- Your voice: when you talk to your tutor, your microphone audio is sent live to our voice provider so the tutor can hear and answer. We do not record or store your audio.
- What you say: the words of a conversation are turned into text to show you the chat and to make your recap. We use the text to create your recap and a few short facts the tutor can remember (for example your name or a topic you like). The facts are kept on your phone.
- Your learning settings: your level, your daily goal, your tutor choice, your age group and the minutes you have spoken. These are kept on your phone.
- Support messages: if you write to us by email or through the form on the Support page, we keep your message, your email address and the name you give, to answer you.
- Usage counters: how many talks, recaps and word sounds you used today, to keep the app fair for everyone.
- Analytics: which screens you open and the actions you take (for example, finishing a talk), with fixed words and numbers only. Each learner is identified by a random user id, never by name or email. We also ask whether you are under 25 or 25 and over, to group learners in analytics. We never ask your exact age. We do not use session recordings, and we do not collect what you say in analytics.
- Crash reports: if the app crashes, a report with technical details about your phone and the error is sent. It contains no conversation text and no personal details.
How we use it
We use your data to:
- run your conversations, recaps and word sounds;
- keep your account and sign you in;
- keep the app reliable and fair (limits, fixing crashes);
- understand which parts of the app people use, so we can improve it. Your age group is used for this only: it does not change your lessons, your tutor or any price;
- answer your messages to support.
How long we keep it
Your account and its counters are kept until you delete your account. When you delete it, we delete your account and its data from our servers and your analytics profile right away, with no waiting period. Data on your phone is removed when you delete your account in the app, or when you uninstall the app. Anonymous accounts that are not used for 90 days are deleted automatically.
Analytics events are removed from PostHog when you delete your account (PostHog finishes removing the events in the background). Crash reports contain no personal details and are kept by Sentry for its standard short retention period. What OpenAI processed during your talks is kept under the rules of OpenAI itself, which we do not control.
Your choices and rights
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile, then Settings, then Delete account). If you cannot open the app, follow the steps on the Delete account page. Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription: cancel it in the App Store or Google Play.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, to object to how we use it, or to complain to your data protection authority. Write to support@talklouder.app and we will answer within 24 hours.
If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the rights to access, correct, delete, restrict and move your data, and to object to how we use it. We use your data to provide the app you asked for, to keep it secure and fair, and, for analytics, because we have a legitimate interest in improving it.
You can use the microphone permission in your phone settings to stop the app from hearing you at any time. Without it, conversations are not available.
This website and cookies
The Talk Louder app does not use browser cookies. This website uses Google Analytics to count visits in aggregate, which sets cookies in your browser. The Google tag is loaded on every visit but starts with storage switched off (Google Consent Mode): analytics cookies are set only after you press Accept on the cookie notice, and until then Google receives only basic, cookie-free signals. If you press Reject all, no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of any page.
Children
Talk Louder is open to learners aged 4 and over. We recommend that children under 13 use it together with a parent or guardian. A child does not need an account: the app works without signing up, and we never ask for a name or email unless the learner chooses to sign up.
If you are a parent and want a child’s data removed, write to support@talklouder.app.
Where your data goes
Our providers may process data in the United States and other countries, including outside the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom. Where the law requires it, they rely on approved safeguards, such as the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell you in the app.
